Restoring hope for famine victims
Just when you think there is little humanity left, something encouraging happens and hope is restored. Once again Kenya is facing drought, no shock there. And, once again there is famine and a staggering 3.5 million Kenyans are facing starvation. The government which had been warned and knows this cyclic problem only too well has been caught with its pants down, again!
It is this neglect that has driven Kenyans to take up the initiative themselves through a forum Kenyans for Kenya. The last couple of days have been very busy sending texts to collect money for those facing famine. Many campaigns have been done through the social media especially twitter and Facebook. This project was spearheaded by the private sector with companies such as Safaricom a mobile phone operator and Nation Media Group a prominent media house.
62 million shillings have been raised thus far and the first flag off of foodstuffs are being released today to Turkana. Hope has once again been restored.
